Molluscum Contagiosum

About 6 months ago Colin started getting little pimple like bumps on his back, sides and armpits.  They weren't really doing anything so I wasn't super concerned, but was expecting them to eventually pop, but they never did.  I tried to pop one myself but only succeeded in making it bleed, nothing came out of it and it didn't go away after.  Well, at some point through the holidays I mentioned it to my sister and she says it is Molluscum Contagiosum.  Two of her kids have had it.  If it is just a few bumps, the doctor won't do anything for them, they will go away on their own within a few years.  So based on that we left them alone and hoped they would go away soon.  But then a month or so later he started getting them all over his legs and the ones between his legs were getting painfully infected and turning into boiles, so we headed to the pediatrician.  He confirmed that it was Molluscum (one of the worst cases he has seen) and referred us to a Dermatologist.  The dermatologist agreed that it was a classic case of Molluscum and treated a few of the bumps with a blistering agent.  She said that there is no way to get rid of the virus except for helping the body to become aware of the virus and start building antibobodies to fight it.  So the blistering agent just makes the body aware of the issue so it can treat it on it's own.  Unfortunately the treatment process of the body fighting the virus makes all the bumps to red, inflamed and puss filled... which is when they are most contageous... and they itch and hurt so the kids want to mess with them and spread the puss around.  Plus as Colin's body started fighting the virus he came down with a serious "Molluscum Rash".  He basically had eczma covering 90% of his body and it itched horribly, so we were them covering him in steroid cream twice a day to keep him from scratching.  It was a pretty awful experience, but thankfully 6 months later he seems to be bump free... however his two brothers have both developed a few bumps of their own.
